The Theater Education Program (TEP) brings together theater professionals from the Caribbean part of the Kingdom, Suriname, and the Netherlands to address the shortage of theater teachers in the region. They are researching the development of a supra-regional, part-time, and hybrid training program, set to launch in 2027, leading to a first-degree teaching qualification. The program targets (semi-)professionals and is designed modularly, allowing individual components to be taken separately.

Central to the research are shared ownership, alignment with regional needs, collaboration with local partners, and attention to cultural heritage and entrepreneurship. Through research weeks at various locations, practice, educational content, and the theater teacher profile are developed collectively. The goal is a sustainable strengthening of the cultural infrastructure and the formation of a strong regional network of theater professionals.

The TEP vision

Elevate, stimulate, and inspire the Caribbean Dutch and Surinamese community through the power of imagination, by building a strong and inclusive community that promotes creative power, artistry for everyone, and artistic excellence for top talent.

Through cultural theater education, we connect heritage, roots, and identity — creating space for all talents and stories from the Caribbean and Suriname, in relation to the Kingdom and the entire world.
